iOS app icon generator for iPhone and iPad
Prepare your Apple app icons from a single image. FreeAppIcon converts your artwork into conventional iOS PNG assets and packages them into an Xcode app icon set. All processing runs in your browser, without an account or upload to a server.
What your Xcode download contains
Choose iOS & iPadOS in the generator. The ZIP includes a named .appiconset folder, a Contents.json file, and PNGs referenced by that catalog. The export covers iPhone and iPad slots plus a 1024px marketing image.
- iPhone: 20, 29, 40 and 60-point slots at 2× and 3×.
- iPad: 20, 29, 40 and 76-point slots at 1× and 2×, plus 83.5 points at 2×.
- PNG dimensions include 20, 29, 40, 58, 60, 76, 80, 87, 120, 152, 167, 180 and 1024 pixels. Slots with the same dimensions share an image.
Images use RGB encoding with no alpha channel. Your chosen background fills transparent areas. The iPhone preview shows rounded corners, but the exported PNG remains square so the operating system can apply its own mask.
Use the Xcode app icon generator in three steps
- Upload a PNG, JPG, WebP or self-contained SVG. Start with at least 1024 × 1024 pixels for raster artwork.
- Set an app name, choose your background and padding, and select iOS & iPadOS. Review both the large and small previews.
- Download and extract the ZIP. Drag the generated app icon set into
Assets.xcassets, then select its name in your target’s app icon settings.
For “My App”, the folder is ios/my_app.appiconset/, with filenames such as my_app-180.png. Select my_app as the app icon source. Renaming PNGs manually also requires updating their references in Contents.json.
Choose artwork that reads well on an iPhone
A recognizable silhouette and strong foreground contrast help at small sizes. Leave breathing room around details near corners. Transparent source artwork lets you change the icon color independently; tinting an opaque image colors its entire rectangular shape.
Which Apple icon formats are supported?
This iPhone app icon generator exports conventional iOS and iPadOS assets. It does not create layered Icon Composer files, Liquid Glass artwork, dark or tinted appearance variants, watchOS, tvOS, visionOS, or native macOS icon sets. Check macOS compatibility if your target is a Mac app.
For current platform setup, consult Apple’s asset catalog documentation. Build the project and inspect the result on your target devices before submitting it.
Is this iOS app icon generator free?
Yes. Previewing, recoloring, and downloading the supported assets are free, with no sign-up or watermark. You provide the artwork; FreeAppIcon resizes and packages it.
