Android app icon generator
Turn your artwork into Android launcher resources with custom filenames. FreeAppIcon prepares legacy icons, adaptive layers, optional monochrome resources and a Play Store image in one ZIP, locally in your browser.

Launcher sizes and adaptive layers
The Android export contains five resource-density folders. Each includes a flat launcher icon and a transparent adaptive foreground layer. The generator also creates a background color resource and XML that references the matching files.
- mdpi: 48px launcher / 108px foreground.
- hdpi: 72px launcher / 162px foreground.
- xhdpi: 96px launcher / 216px foreground.
- xxhdpi: 144px launcher / 324px foreground.
- xxxhdpi: 192px launcher / 432px foreground.
The separate android/play-store.png is a 512 × 512 image for your store listing. It is not the adaptive launcher resource.
Keep your symbol inside the safe area
Adaptive icons can be masked differently by Android launchers. This tool uses a 108dp foreground layer and fits your artwork within a central 66dp region according to your padding setting. Turn on “Show Android safe area” to check the important parts of your symbol against the dashed circle.
The circle preview represents one launcher shape. Review corners and padding on real devices too; the preview cannot reproduce every mask and animation.
Generate an Android themed icon
Enable “Android themed icon” to include monochrome silhouette assets and a version-33 adaptive XML file. The system supplies themed colors. Your selected icon tint applies to normal foreground exports, while the monochrome export stays a white alpha silhouette.
A transparent PNG or SVG works best. An opaque JPG becomes a solid rectangular silhouette because this generator does not remove its background. Projects using the generated monochrome XML need compileSdk 33 or newer.
Install your icons in Android Studio
- Upload your artwork, set its padding and colors, and enter an app name.
- Select Android and download the ZIP. Copy
android/rescontents into your app module’ssrc/main/res. - Set the application’s icon resource in AndroidManifest.xml. With “My App”, use
android:icon="@mipmap/my_app". If you useandroid:roundIcon, update that reference too. - Build the app and test the icon on representative launcher shapes and light/dark themes.
Names are normalized to lowercase letters, numbers and underscores so Android can resolve them. The exported XML uses the same name automatically.
Free online export, with local processing
No account or payment is needed. Your image stays in the browser while it is decoded, resized and packaged. See Android’s adaptive icon documentation for platform behavior and requirements.
Also shipping on Apple devices? See the iOS app icon generator for Xcode. The installation guide covers all three export packages.
